Installation
Install, update and remove GroomLab.
GroomLab ships as one zip with a drag-and-drop installer.
Install
Unzip
Unzip the package somewhere it can stay, for example Documents\GroomLab. Keep the GroomLab
folder, GroomLab.mod, install.mel and install_groomlab.py together.
Drag install.mel onto Maya
Start Maya 2022 and drag install.mel onto the viewport.
- If Maya asks about Untrusted Plugin Loading, choose Allow (tick Apply to all plugins in this location to not be asked again).
- A GroomLab menu appears in the main menu bar. The plugin loads automatically from now on.
Restart Maya once
So Arnold picks up GroomLab's translator and procedural.
Missing DLL?
If Maya fails to load the plugin with a missing-DLL error, install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015-2022 (x64).
Update
Close Maya, unzip the new package over the old folder, and start Maya.
Uninstall
Delete <Documents>\maya\modules\GroomLab.mod (and the GroomLab folder), or run this in Maya's
Python tab:

When Maya goes down, GroomLab writes %TEMP%\GroomLabCrash_<date>_<time>.log. Please send it
along with what you were doing.
