GroomLab

Introduction

Hair, fur and feathers for Maya 2022.

GroomLab is a hair, fur and feather system for Maya. It pairs hierarchical guides you shape by hand (guides, then child guides generated inside their parents' tubes) with a procedural node graph for the look (scatter, interpolate, clump, noise, curl and more).

Where you work

PlaceWhat it holds
Attribute EditorThe groom's inputs (scalp, rest mesh, guides, colliders), keyable controls, display and render settings.
Groom ToolsEverything you do to the guides: brushes, guide groups, painted maps, sculpt layers and reference photos.
Graph EditorThe look, as nodes.

Everything in the UI also has a Python call, so scripts and pipelines can do the same.

A standalone GroomLab app is on the way, for grooming, look-dev and export without Maya on Windows, macOS and Linux. Grooms made in Maya will open in it as they are. See GroomLab app for what the preview does today.

Requirements
